Accessibility

In Postales de Compostela we are working to make our Website practical and accessible to all customers.

For this reason, we try to meet criteria of simplicity in our design and programming, with a desire to guarantee the accessibility to the information and the services offered, easily and without any restriction, thereby including individuals with disabilities.

This type of design will increase usability and therefore all users will be benefited.

Along with the incorporation of new contents which meet these criteria, we revise and improve the contents which have been already published. Therefore you may detect different degrees of usability and accessibility.

Compatibility with standards

This Website has been designed and programmed according to the guidelines of the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI, www.w3.org/wai). This organization sets up international standards for the creation of web contents accessible to everybody.

  • XHTML 1.0
  • CSS
  • WAI-AA

Usability and accessibility improvements
Several measures have been taken in order to provide a more accessible website, including:

  • Simplified navigation system – there are no dropdown menus.
  • Coherent and consistent visual structure and navigation in the whole web.
  • Keeping track of the location through ‘breadcrumbs’.
  • Grouping of similar links with the ‘MAP’ element.
  • Descriptive text of images.
  • Main options accessible with keyboard.

Elastic design

The Website layout has been modified so as the User may resize the text and the whole web. If you wish to increase or decrease the presentation size, you may do it by using:

  • the keyboard: Internet Explorer: press Ctrl and use the scroll wheel
  • Netscape, Mozilla:
press Ctrl and plus (+) key to increase size
press Ctrl and minus (-) key to decrease size
  • your navigator menu: See > Text Size

Links

Most of links whose destination is not described in its text have title attributes with an explanation.

Whenever it is possible, links are described in a way that they can be understood out of context. Some navigators (such as JAWS, Home Page Reader, Lynx and Opera) can extract a link list of the current page and permit the User navigating from this list. Take account of this, links are not duplicated, and if they are duplicated they access the same contents.

There are no JavaScript pseudo-links: all links can be followed in any browser, even if JavaScript has been disabled.
